What do you specialise in?
Nursery fit-outs, nursery conversions and school refurbishments are our specialism. We design, build and refurbish early years settings to EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) standards, covering safeguarding, safety, layout and the indoor and outdoor space requirements that Ofsted-registered nurseries need. We also build and refurbish SEND facilities, children's homes and care settings.
Where is Ideas Capital based, and which areas do you cover?
We're based in Harrow, North West London. We regularly work across Harrow, Pinner, Stanmore, Wembley, Ruislip, Edgware and Northwood, into Hertfordshire including Watford and Borehamwood, and across Greater London. Can you convert a shop, office or hall into a nursery?
Yes. Many commercial premises in Use Class E can become a day nursery without a planning application, while conversions from other uses, listed buildings, or sites under an Article 4 direction need consent. We check the use class and planning position early, then handle the change of use, building control, fit-out and compliance. Our Harrow and Borehamwood nurseries were both conversions of existing halls.
What does a nursery fit-out or refurbishment include?
Typically: layout and safeguarding design, new floors, walls and finishes, child-height washrooms and sinks, baby and sleep rooms, kitchens, storage and furniture, heating, ventilation and lighting, fire and access compliance, and the outdoor area: fencing, safety surfacing, canopies and play equipment. We scope each project against the EYFS framework and what an Ofsted inspection will look for.
Do you handle planning permission and building regulations?
Yes. Our design and planning service manages the full process, from drawings to submission and building control sign-off, and we know how local authorities such as Harrow, Hertsmere and Watford councils assess applications, including in conservation areas.
How long does a nursery conversion take?
It depends on the building and scope. Our Aldershot nursery was converted inside and out in one month; the two-storey Harrow branch, with its first-floor extension and grounds, took two months. We agree a programme before work starts and run trades in parallel to hit it.
Do you refurbish schools and care homes as well as nurseries?
Yes. We carry out classroom, washroom, hall and corridor refurbishments and extensions for primary, secondary and SEND schools, and construction, extensions and refurbishment for care homes, supported living and children's homes built ready for CQC and Ofsted standards.
Do you only take on large projects?
